I try on my off days from the gym to go for a run.  I’ve never considered myself a runner, I don’t get that endorphin rush that runners speak of but I run because I know it’s good for me and I always feel like I accomplished something good for myself when I’m done.

I listen to music to distract myself and try to use the time to think through things I need to do. I prefer to run on a 1/2 mile track rather then out in the streets because I can easily keep track of how far I’ve gone. I have found that much of running is a mental game. You have to set goals and tell yourself you can do it. The track gives me the comfort I need, if it’s not happening that day, I can stop without being far from home. When I first started, a mile was a huge accomplishment. Now I run 6 miles but on average I go for 3 mile runs. Not bad for a non-runner! I have even participated in a few races, although it’s not really my thing ( not competitive). I never would have imagined 4 years ago that I would do that.
