I devour every shelter magazine and I’m always on the lookout for interesting design ideas.  In particular, I love a furniture layout that’s unexpected.  Talented designers think outside of the box and utilize space in a room in a way that creates excitement, not predictable.  I’ve taken note of the use of a corner sofa or banquette.  We often see large corner sofas in family rooms, generally where everyone gathers to watch tv, but on a smaller scale it can be used in tight or awkward places to create a conversation spot or seating in a small dining area. Corner sofas can also be used on either side of a fireplace, or in a cozy den.  It can even be used in more formal living spaces when done on a smaller scale.

Miles Redd utilizes the corner sofa to perfection.  Here are some examples of his work as well as several others to give you ideas for your own home.
